Cora Crawley, Lady Grantham by John Singer Sargent (1893)
Well, not really. Technically it’s Lady Agnew, but I was bored tonight, and got to thinking what painter would be suited to paint some of the Downton Abbey characters. I came up with Sargent for Cora, because of obvious reasons. While he was an American (another reason why I think Cora’d pick him), he was living in England and Europe in the late 1800’s (he had been elected to the Royal Academy in 1893), and was in vogue at the time, having painted the portraits of countless aristocrats. Henry James was a particular fan of his.
This is Photoshop, however. Original painting + shot of Elizabeth McGovern in Ragtime. And lots of spare time. C’mon, what else is a fangirl to do on a Friday night?
